Mum + Daughter Pilates In West Bridgford

One class. Two workouts. Time together.

A weekly Pilates class for mums and teenage daughters, where you both get to move, build strength and feel good in your bodies, while spending 45 minutes together that isn’t about homework, lifts, screens or waiting around.

Mondays, 6.15-7 pm | West Bridgford Methodist Church

First class: Monday 2 November

When did spending time together get so complicated?

When they’re little, you’re together constantly. Then somehow they’re teenagers.

There are school days, homework, clubs, friends, work, lifts here and there, and increasingly separate lives. You might spend plenty of time around each other without actually doing very much together.

And finding something you both genuinely want to do isn’t always easy. That’s the idea behind Mum + Daughter Pilates.

Not a special mother-daughter “bonding exercise”. Just something genuinely good for both of you that happens to give you a regular bit of time together too.

You both come. You both exercise. You both get stronger. And afterwards, you go home together.

What is Mum + Daughter Pilates?

A 45-minute weekly Pilates class for mums and teenage daughters to take together.

We’ll work on strength, control, mobility, balance, posture and body awareness, with different options so you don’t need to have the same strength, flexibility or experience.

Your daughter doesn’t have to keep up with you.

You don’t have to keep up with your daughter.

And neither of you needs to have done Pilates before.

You simply get to do it together.

Pilates for mums and daughters aged 14+

Finding Pilates classes that a teenager and her mum can attend together isn’t always straightforward. Adult classes may not accept younger participants, while children’s classes aren’t something Mum can join in with.

Mum + Daughter Pilates sits between the two. I’m qualified to teach both adults and children, so the class can be adapted for different ages, experience and ability while you still take part together.

Why now?

Teenage years are exactly when movement can start becoming complicated. Bodies change. Confidence changes. School gets more demanding. Sitting increases. And exercise can easily become something associated with performance, competition, appearance or being “good” at sport.

Pilates gives you something different.

It’s a chance for your daughter to learn how her body moves, develop strength and control and become more confident using it, without competition.

And Mum gets a workout too.

Rather than spending another 45 minutes driving to an activity, waiting outside and driving home again, you’re using that same time for yourself as well.

What will you get from the class?

You don’t need to wait months before you get anything from it.

From the first class, you’ll start learning how to move with more awareness and control, and you’ll leave having spent 45 minutes moving together.

With regular attendance, the exercises progressively develop strength, stability, mobility, balance and control.

And perhaps the nicest result is simpler than that:

Monday evening becomes something you do together.

Mum + Daughter Pilates prices

One activity. For both of you.

A children’s activity can easily cost £40, £50, £60 or more a month.

Then Mum still needs to find her own exercise, her own class, her own time and potentially another membership.

Mum + Daughter Pilates is £70 per month for both of you together as Founding Members.

That’s £35 each per month for a weekly class.

Two people get to exercise.

One journey.

One evening in the diary.

And some time together thrown in for free.

Who am I?

I’m Viki Thorbjorn, a qualified Pilates, Yoga and Children’s Movement teacher.

I teach adults and children across Nottingham, including regular Yoga and Pilates classes in West Bridgford, and I created Movement Development Academy to give children and young people more opportunities to develop strength, movement skills, body awareness and confidence outside competitive sport.

Teaching Mum + Daughter Pilates brings those two sides of my work together.

I can teach the adult standing next to you and the teenager standing next to her, adapting the same class so that both of you can participate safely and meaningfully.

Mum + Daughter Pilates FAQs

What age is this for?

Mum + Daughter Pilates is designed primarily for daughters aged 14 and over. If your daughter is younger and you think the class may be a good fit, please get in touch with me before booking. For younger children, I also run separate Children’s Yoga and Pilates classes in West Bridgford.

Do either of us need Pilates experience?

No. Exercises will have different options, so you don’t need to be at the same level either.

What if one of us can't make a class?

The other can still attend alone. Your membership belongs to your named Mum + Daughter pair, so the absent person’s place can’t be transferred to somebody else.

What happens if we both miss a week?

Missed classes aren’t refunded, credited or carried over.

What do we need to bring?

A mat each, water and comfortable clothes you can move in.

Where is it?

West Bridgford Methodist Church, Musters Road, West Bridgford, NG2 7PQ.

Is there a minimum commitment?

Yes. Membership has an initial three-month commitment. After the first three months, it automatically becomes a rolling monthly membership.

How long is the £70 Founding Membership available?

You can join at the £70/month Founding Membership rate until 3 November. This means you can come to the taster on 2 November and still decide afterwards. From 4 November, new memberships will be £80/month for Mum + Daughter.

Your Monday evening could look a little different.

You could drop your daughter somewhere and wait for her. You could try to squeeze your own exercise into another part of the week.

Or you could both walk into the same room, put your mats down next to each other and spend 45 minutes doing something that’s good for both of you.
